There are currently 33 different job postings in Santa Monica. Among the positions, we see postings for units such as animation director, gameplay design director, chief gameplay programmer, chief art designer, chief storytelling designer, and chief episode designer. Santa Monica is preparing to expand its team considerably for its new game.
Of course, we do not have much information about the details of the new project that has not been announced yet. However, when we look at the contents of the job postings, we understand that the project is most likely in its early stages. Positions such as chief art designer and chief screenwriter are key points for such large projects, so these positions are often filled early in the development process of games.
God of War director Cory Barlog had previously made some statements that he wanted to start a new series other than God of War. Santa Monica’s unannounced new project could be the start of a new series of this kind. However, of course, today’s high-budget AAA games have a very long development process. If we accept that the project in question is in its early stages, we can say that it is not possible to see much of the game in the next 2 years at least.
On the other hand, as you know, most of the Santa Monica team is currently busy with the God of War: Ragnarök game. Ragnarök was said to be released in 2021, but so far no details of the game have been released except for the first teaser video. The probability of staying to 2022 seems high.
